Ethosome was proposed and developed in 2000 by Professor E. Touitou and several other scientists as a next-generation and a modified form of liposome.
As an upgraded version of liposome that overcomes its drawbacks, Ethosome has 3 to 4 times higher skin permeability penetration than conventional liposomes. It also has an electrically charged characteristic, carrying an electric charge.
